If I had a choice between studying at home using computersandtelevision or studying in a traditional school setting, Idchoosethe traditional setting. Maybe its just what Im used to,but Idont think that technology can replace teachersandclassrooms.After all, technology can fail. Computers go downandcomputer programs crash. Televisions break, and the electricitycansuddenly go off. In those situations, whos going to teach me?IfIm at school, and the television or the computers stopning,theres a teacher to step in and change the lesson plan.Teacherscan draw on their teaching experience and be creative.Computersand televisions cant.Id also miss the chance to interactwithother students if I werent going to school. Being with other people also helpsusdiscover who we are.Another concern I have about studying athomeis getting distracted. Its strange, but I think being homealoneis more distracting than being at school with a lot of people.Atschool, were all focused on the same subjects. At home, itwouldbe so easy to turn off the computer or the television and godosomething else. I might tell myself that its okay to playacomputer game now and make up the study hours later. Chancesare,Id never make up the study hours.Im all in favor ofusingtechnology in the classroom. I think computers and televisionaregreat ways for students to have access to a lot of information.Ijust dont think they should be the only tools I have as astudent.I also need teachers and other students to help me get acompleteeducation.
