The author and the lecture discuss the topic related to the introduction of genetically modified mosquitoes. While the writer insists on the adverse effect genetically modified mosquitoes may exert, the lecturer believe that the arguments made in the reading are not reasonable.

One reason for the author opposing genetically modified mosquitoes is their impact on other types of mosquitoes. However, the professor cites the example of Asian tiger mosquitoes to clarify the little effect GM mosquitoes may have. Although the Asian tiger mosquito carries dengue, the amount of dengue, according to the experiment, stays the same after the introduction of this species.

In addition, the writer states that the bite of GM mosquito is dangerous. In fact, according to the professor, only female mosquitoes bite people instead of males ones. The GM mosquitoes introduced domestically are all male.

Finally, the author mentions that the ecosystem is influenced by the GM mosquito. This is also rebutted by the professor who claims that no evidence could be given to support its adverse influence on ecosystem. The effect of isolation asserted in the reading asks for the new method to prove. Besides, genetically modified mosquitoes would take the place of poisonous pesticides and insecticides. Consequently, the impact of GM mosquitoes on ecosystem can be considered as positive.
